Behind the Scenes: A Volunteer's Tale at Moab Rocks

In the world of mountain biking, the spotlight is often on the riders conquering challenging terrains and crossing finish lines. But what about those unseen heroes who make it all happen—the volunteers? This is the story of why I chose to trade my bike shoes for a volunteer's vest at Moab Rocks.

As a passionate mountain biker, the idea of being part of an event like Moab Rocks was too enticing to resist. Sure, I wasn't the one conquering the trails, but contributing to the success of an epic race brought its own kind of thrill. Every cheering smile, filled water bottle, and smoothly run aid station felt like a victory.

Volunteering at Moab Rocks was my chance to connect with the vibrant mountain biking community. From seasoned pros to enthusiastic “weekend warriors”, everyone shared the common language of the trail. The camaraderie among volunteers, racers, and organizers created a sense of unity that transcended the dusty trails.

Being a volunteer wasn't just about handing out snacks and topping up electrolyte drinks. It was about sharing trailside tales with fellow volunteers and racers alike. From swapping the best gear hacks to hearing about riders' conquests and challenges, every conversation added a layer of richness to the event for me.

While the riders reveled in the spotlight, there was a special kind of magic happening behind the scenes. Witnessing the logistics, planning, and coordination that go into making an event like Moab Rocks successful was eye-opening. It made me appreciate the meticulous effort that goes into creating a memorable experience for every participant.

As a volunteer at Moab Rocks, I discovered that the heart of the event beats not just on the trails but in the collective spirit of those who come together to make it happen. Being part of the “behind-the-scenes magic” added a new dimension to my love for mountain biking.

To those contemplating volunteering for 2024, I say, join the ranks of unseen heroes, experience the joy of contribution, and let Moab Rocks become not just a race but a shared adventure for everyone involved.
